Re: OPP rules

Rey,

It depends on how the CD defines wing and stabilizer. There is nothing in
the rules that clearly defines which surface is the wing and which is the
stabilizer. As such, I have always made sure to stay under the maximum wing
dimensions to ensure that my stabilizer does not get declared the wing.
(7in x 2.5in projected)

In my opinion, the intention of the rules is to have the wing be the
primary lifting surface and the stabilizer ostensibly stabilize the wing.
It is doubtful that stabilizer becomes the primary lifting surface even
when its span extends past 7 inches. However, the planform efficiency does
increase due to the increase in aspect ratio so there is some advantage
associated with longer span tail. I would like to see this potential
loophole further clarified by the Indoor Contest Board.

Vlad, Which rule or precedent was cited when your OPP was DQed at USIC?

Regards,

Nick
