Re: Approaching the new rules from a design standpoint
Mike, the performance issues you've had with F1D have befuddled me for some time. Now I think I'm starting to understand them. Let's try this:
1. Set your wing parallel to the motorstick and leave it there. Except for special cases of reduced area models or those flown on fixed pitch props in the mine, nothing good ever comes of positive incidence on F1D's. I've been there, tried it, and said "never again!"
2. Downthrust is of the devil on every indoor model I've ever flown. Never, ever use any downthrust on F1D. It is even more evil when associated with VP props. A lot of people have talked in the past about letting their motorsticks bow a little at high torque for a hair of downthrust. I've never seen anything good come of doing that, though. Obviously other folks have better success with it than me...
3. With the wing and prop shaft set parallel, you can attack using the stab to adjust incidence settings in an appropriate manner. Even with the terrible twisting you mention, you'll find yourself using far, far less incidence, and life shall be happier. Once you do get the twisting addressed, you'll have a real show waiting for you, but in the meantime, it'll still make your times go up.
