also in the spirit of discussion I must confess that don and I both have Y2K2 , Good rubber ,good wood AND MICROFILM ;-) I haven't flown F1D since Akron so most of these discussions about rule changes are old hat with new faces.and generally tend to change nothing but the faces .the good guys will figure it out till the next rule cycle and the rule makers will want to re level the playing field. Someone said "if ya can;t beat em ...change the rules" Since my stroke 5 years ago i've been slowly trying to recover my building skills,I hope that by the time I can build FiD again ,that F1D will still be the premier event it always was.
Congrats to Kang and all the USA team Good Show!!
all the best

True Kang, and yet you are the World Champion.
My point is this. Y2K2, great rubber, and great wood all offer advantages if used correctly. I think rubber is the greatest barrier in our hobby. The difference between two different 5/99 motors at West Baden this year was a 28 minute flight and a 35 minute flight. The motors were the same size, but from deferent previous owners. Nothing else on the model was changed. I feel like we are discussing the mouse and ignoring the elephant in the room.
Thus in the interest of fairness, what if at each contest we order a large box of new rubber, and required everyone to fly on it? Yes, I am actually being completely serious.
P.S. In my open letter to the CIAM I suggested banning Y2K2 rather than chaining the model specifications. I think it is one of many advantages allowed in the rules.
