Re: Re: Sites/Contests in 2012

John, and all,...editorial comment...

Maybe I am missing something, but this Yahoo group is the mainstream info
base for the serious indoor flyer.

But, it does seem to be reactive rather than proactive. The Tustin events
are a good example. Tustin becomes available and this group is the forum
to organize and get it together. That is really great...But...it does
leave the Mike Kirda's out there a bit short on lead time and planning, and a
bit behind the power curve. I'm sure that if you (someone) ask Alan
Peterson (the NFFS site) to organize the indoor link to include flying site info
it could work, but again someone has to step up and be the point of contact.
Who is the organizer of this web group? For the SEN, it's Roger Morrill,
for the MMM site it's Don DeLoach...there needs to be an equivalent for
this web group.

Currently, in the NFFS, it is with the club info and their contacts, but
perhaps using the NFFS as the medium is a good idea. Contest flyers can be
posted or at least links to them. There isn't a group central location,
other than the INAV N/L, but someone still has to step up and take it on for
a website or other method or location that all of the info is collected.
My choice would be the NFFS.

Also, people that don't have any conflicts with their time and have the
ability to drop things and go to Tustin...no problem. But, if the Tustin
events or some other events have longer notice times, they should be posted on
a common site that is referred to via this group. Again, my choice would
be the NFFS.

As a N/L editor, I send the Max-Out to many folks and it still surprises
me when those same folks email me and ask when the contest is. I go to some
effort to include the info in the N/L and we post the contest schedules
with the NFFS. Maybe the key is to get those "outlayer" folks to join NFFS
or a local club too. That does help, but I find many guys who just don't
like the idea of being involved...and they expect someone else to do the leg
work. JMHO...

Hi Mike,
There have been several attempts at comprehensive listing of Indoor
Contest - the most recent being the Indoor Contest Calendar on the NFFS website
(freeflight.org)
Kent and USIC are reasonable driving distances from Chicago IMO, and I
highly recommend both. Kent, OH is one day in a great Cat II site (just under
50'). USIC (Johnson City, TN) is 5 days under 116' in super stable air
with upwards of 75 contestants.
You should also consider the EAA contest in Oshkosh, WI

Chicago. I seem to recall a reference to the AMA site too. If I can make one or
two of these, I'd like to. I'm just not sure how to 'get in the loop' for
this.
