So check out the Oakland Clouddusters WEEKLY flying/building sessions.

Yes most of the kids are of recent immigrants with a strong science/education ethic.

They proudly bring in their friends and get the hooked too.

This was started 15+ years ago by former F1B World Champion George Xenakis and now led by his cohort Lou Young...

      John,

I agree that indoor will never be the huge spectator sport that baseball is. There will never be corporate sponsors, unless we all start throwing A to Z Corp Decals on our No-Cals.

I think that what we need is a self generated program for schools. This will solve two problems at once:

1) Attract younger participants and perhaps even their parents
2) Allow us to gain regular access to school Gyms to fly in

We should propose an afterschool program which will run similar to a science class. Many schools are cutting funding for science extra curricular activities due to budget problems, so this would appeal to the schools. We would have to run the program based on volunteerism and also work closely with AMA to have their backing.

If something like this could become self-sustaining and successful it would open new doors for participation and site availability. This would have to operate independent from S.O. and could operate as somewhat of a magnet program for students from many school systems to attend.

I would be interested in progressing this idea further if there is substantial backing from the indoor community.

John,
I agree with you on most of what you said, but I don't understand the
"green lobby" part. I think it is important that we do more to protect our
environment, but I fear that might make me a "greenie" which
apparently is not a good thing. Apparently it is better
to support pollution & uncontrolled consumption of the natural
resources?
And what are those people called?
