Getting civilians to step into indoor freeflight is crossing a major threshold for them. Most really need a Pre-Delta Dart style airplane that easily flies inside an gym and is very easy to build.

The AMA Ed Committee has used a modified Guillows Skystreak with great success with science teachers. I can provide the mods that transform this toy airplane into an efficient little bugger..

Now, before saying, "You got to be kidding!", it really is a great, inexpensive way to get positive re-inforcement into the hands of a novice. This airplane is a baseline for them and they have never flown one over 5 seconds. When they see it fly 30 seconds they are shocked!!

Kits are still cheap (toy marketing), then throw on some Tan II 3/32 rubber and launch with a thousand winds. It will over 30 seconds and better with common sense sanding, lightening, and open the prop pitch. Pull out a stop watch and get a couple of their flights recorded. Chances are you will have set the hook. Go a step further and pit two novices in the fight (flight?) and a competitive drive begins... Stir and bake then serve.

Organize this activity for the whole community as a Parks Dept Event or school event. During the activity take some time to demo the real indoor stuff- it will pay strong dividends.
