From a couple of posts it sounds like there is a certain amount of feeling that "experts" should not be flying "beginner" events. I think if you look at the USIC results and take out the "experts" from A6, F1L, F1M and LPP there aren't going to be a whole lot of people left to fly those events. In F1L for instance 3 of the top 5 places were taken by former World Champions.

How would it be to have a handicap system for those events? It seems to work for golf where there is usually a lot more at stake than in our sport. Would beginning flyers feel more inclined to enter if they had a better chance of winning?

If you tell me I can't fly the events I enjoy then you're going to lose another indoor flyer.

As seen in any competitive event, it is both impractical and absurd to think that beginners would play on the same stage at the same time as the experts! Would you expect an 11 year old kid to pitch 5 innings of the World Series, or for a 16 year old driver to race the Indy 500? There is a system in place which allows for beginners to compete against other beginners, and when they advance they EARN the right to play at the next level.

The problem that I see is the lack of regional events that occur. They happen once a year at best, and even then there is not enough momentum to generate a buzz. The USIC is open to anyone, you do not have to qualify to fly, you just have to register and pay. This puts the beginners in the same area as the experts. I can not think of another competitive sport or hobby that works this way. There should be many regional events which will gain interest for and allow people to practice before heading off to the USIC. I am not saying that people should have to qualify or earn the right to attend USIC. They should look forward to honing their craft on the next level.

No experts at the Indoor Nats...you overwhelm me with your optimism!

More realistically, aren't we trying to have about as many
intermediates/beginners as experts? In such a case, with a good revenue
stream the Indoor Nats might not be on the chopping block due to AMA budget
cuts. Wouldn't that be nice? Of course that would mean more unvarnished
masses running the floor looking for a models to destroy. The horror!

It is the indoor free flight nationals. Obviously it will have a
majority of expert events. If you make it all beginner events then no
    'experts' will attend.
