Chain saws work great when used at the bottom of the tree.

  great deal, nice very long poles with strong tip, but they are having
  some hopefully short term delivery problems with th extra long ones...

  for rescue I recommend some tip attachments- foam ball, coat hanger
  forklift, box knife in a hook "pull cutter" configuration, and hook with
  separate pull cord...Pulling down too hard on a telescoping pole can
  damage it. Use it to send up a hook with line and pull down on the line
  instead.

  (chain saw would be useful too, but it might be a bit heavy for the pole
