Purchased VP hubs at the West Baden Indoor WC
I took a close look at the F1D models that flew during the six rounds of the WC at West Baden. Out of the 46 competitors entered, seven (15%) flew exclusively with non-purchased vp hubs or with a fixed pitch hub. The remaining 39 (85%) used a purchased vp hub for at least one round. The purchased vp hubs were mostly Ivan Treger vp hubs. There were two competitors who used vp hub made and sold by Joshua Finn and one competitor who used a purchased vp hub made by Jake Palmer. Of course, Jake used his own hubs so two competitors use Palmer hubs.
These observations jibe well with Steve Brown's estimate of about 80% purchased vp hub use. The senior individual winner, Brett Sanborn, used his own self-made vp hub, a hub partly based on the Treger hub design. Of the top ten senior individual finishers, three used non-purchased hubs (the three US fliers) while the other seven used Treger hubs. All of the junior pilots, except for USA's Chris Luo, used purchased vp hubs. Chris told me he flew a fixed pitch hub for all the rounds. Finally, the USA senior team blew away all in the team standings, with all three pilots using non-purchased vp hubs. I may have missed the use of a purchased vp hub so my numbers may be off by one or more.
Just an interesting tidbit for your amusement,
