I tested the pool noodle wire guards today with a junior F1D. The plane has the same weight and motor size (6", 0.4g) as a normal F1D but the wing and stab are similar to PP sizes and the prop was a copy of my 15" F1 prop. The wing to prop gap was 2".

The plane would just bounce off the noodle with the prop pushing the plane away rather than hte nodle catching between the wing and prop as a wire would. I tried having the modle hit both the left and right sides of the wing with the same results for both. So, the pool noodle seemed to work.

But, since I did not use a normal, film covered F1D prop, I still think we need to be cautious. Bill's LPP has a 2" prop to wing gap, so his planes should be safe but, still, I think caution is needed.
