As always, there's a range of students in Science Olympiad. At our middle school, we had space for 6 teams, or 90 different students. There were 6 teams because historically, there was a lot of interest and demand.
These students certainly did not treat Science Olympiad as "homework." They were incredibly bright and motivated. They worked hard on their events. But this doesn't mean they become indoor fliers.
At our middle school, the "build events" like Wright Stuff and Towers are in high demand. They are assigned based on the student's interest and previous performance.
