Evan, thank you for adding your perspective to this discussion. And you absolutely right. Indoor flying is inherently difficult and people that aren't up for a challenge and competition simple won't enjoy this aspect of the hobby.
I am far from an expert, though don't know if I would still be considered a novice. Regardless, my first real experience in indoor was flying a poorly built LPP and I was hooked. I decided that I wanted to build better models and learn to fly them. Soon afterwards, I built an F1L. This was also poorly built and poorly flown. But every model I built taught me something and I desired to improve. I didn't feel the need for easier events. I felt the need to get better at building and flying.
