Don, As with any questions concerning the SO rules, any issue needs to be sent through SO channels for clarification. That said, unofficially, rule #3a concerns airplane kits. A prop that is purchased pre-assembled would probably not be considered a kit and be okay under rule #3e. I would leave it up to SO for that determination.
As for the colored areas, I suggest reviewing rule #3g that concerns the method of airplane "identification"and rule #5a that defines the bonus. Note that under #5a by locating the two ribs required by the rules can be close to each other and it becomes more of a "stripe". The local teams here in NW Indiana have started calling these areas "opaque patches" for easy reference. This terminology seems to just a bit of colloquial semantics, nothing more or nothing less.
