Hi Don.

The material to cover a single F1D is somewhere between $5 and $6 for a single model.

If you dig around balsa bins, you can probably find suitable 1/32" for ribs and spar material, but it costs time.
Motor sticks/stubs and tailbooms you could sand down, but it is easier/better to buy the material precut.
At about $7/sheet, this is where the cost is.

I suspect I have about $40 of materials in each F1D. Maybe $50.

It is the time to really, not the material cost.
