Regardless of whether the new rules work out or not, the process by which the rules were changed needs to be modified. I’ve lived through two of these changes now, and they both happened with the same lack of input from the people who actually fly the models.
The rules change may have followed the current CIAM procedures, but that does not make the process effective and just. A group of people who do not fly F1D are not qualified to decide, for example, if we really need an extra .2gm to be able to use OS Film (I’d argue we don’t , since I’ve been using OS Film since the early 2000’s), or if an increase in model weight and a decrease in rubber weight will make smaller sites any more flyable (I’d argue they don’t, since we already fly F1Ds in Cat I gyms regularly).
I plan to continue flying with the new rules, and this most recent change is now water under the bridge, but the current process is unacceptable. Someone needs to step up and fix it or we are going to suffer well intentioned, but unilateral changes again and again. Without a legitimate vetting process, sooner or later the changes aren’t going to work out.
This is going to require one person to take the lead, and that person is not me.
