The first change I would suggest:

 - move tailhook forward on motor stick to get 6" of hook to hook distance.
 - re-position bracing post and re-brace
 - don't replace motor tube with thinner extension tube
 - add ballast to keep CG in the same position as before.
 - Keep everything else the same, especially prop and VP.
 

 And
 - make a new 1/2 dummy motor for test flying.
