For the US F1D fliers, I cannot more strongly suggest that we immediately adopt the new FAI F1D rules, even if we need to do so with an informal "gentle persons'" agreement. This includes flying for qualification for the USA team trials and at the Nats this year. We need to get as much experience as we can with the new rules as we will need fly to those rules for FAI competitions.
Given the reduction in motor weight, I also suggest that the Team Selection committee reduce the "Fly Often" time. To first order, the time should be reduced to 80 minutes. However, we could make allowance for those flights flown to the new rules by multiplying the times by 1.5 for the purposes of "Fly Often " qualifying times. This latter proposal is more balanced and allows the times already flown to the current rules and the times flown to the new rules to be made "equivalent."
I am not a top F1D flier but I will walk the talk and fly under the new rules from now on, including Kent in two weeks. It is easy to do so by using a 2/3 motor (current rules) and the corresponding dummy spacer until new planes are built.
