Mark has it exactly right. The reason this "expert" is saying "bring your A-6, in any form" is because that's the best (and most fun) way to move forward.

I've seen it many times over. The ones who gridlock themselves with self-imposed hurdles don't get very far.

The ones who try something, anything, and learn from it advance quickly.

I find myself in both situations. It is the energy of a deadline (an upcoming contest, usually) that gets me from gridlock to "you've only got two weeks - make whatever you can".
