Ever the Contrarian, Was: Re: BS-6 ?

Jeeze, Mark! Or, should I say *Fiddler*? Your reasoning smacks of Oxy-conton. "Oh, it's this big, or that little; a hunk of rubber--wind to just under breaking...."
I look at the material summaries as a guide, a reference. A ballpark range. I think we all understand (or, we instill) the deception potential in 4# super stiff wood vs. 4# punk. I just add another column for beam loading. I still think of A6 components in, roughly, fifths. 250mg prop (1/5), 500mg wing (2/5), etc.
PS. This post may be influenced by drubs... I mangled my L repairs yesterday and dipped into the wean-off (third tier) Vicodin. The mangling was *not* druyg induced.

Whether true or not, I always assumed that to publish component weight or sizes imples that such is what any author is somewhat confident is "correct" for that model. However, the more I build and fly, the more I experiment, with impunity. So, some of the weighs and/or sizes are merely what I chose that day, and not necessary "correct" in general. Indeed, I have tracked down comments and verification from published authors only to confirm that what they listed is NOT what they still build, but merely how they built it way-back-when, that day. However, I well recall as a newbie how much I loved to see exactly how they did it, even if I couldn't exactly match that with adquate strength. For example, I have made F1d stabs at .125g and .165 g, a 32% difference. Which is best? I don't know, except that you will need to catch some weight somewhere else if you build a .165g F1d stab.
