Ron, thanks for the heads up on this. I immediately grabbed my copy and
I even had a page marker in it on making boxes. Apparently it's been too
long since I read through it.

In my humble opinion you'll find more, clearer and better info on box
building and outfitting in the book "Building & Flying Indoor Model
Airplanes" by . . . me. None of it is overly complicated or difficult -
it borders on the quick and dirty.

Mike,

A good reference for a model box design is an article written by bernard
hunt in indoor news and views issue #103. This can be downloaded from the
existing news and views web site. I use foam with cut slits to mount
props and fuse. For wings you make an open channel formed from a 1/8
sheet base, two 3/32 spaces rails, with two 3/32 lips glued to the rails.
Then make a 3/32 base with a finger tab made from a balsa block, and two
balsa blocks with 1/16 dia. holes drilled to push your wing posts into.
The balsa base holding the wing then just slides into the channel. The
balsa channel can be glued to the back wall of your model box. I glue a
balsa base to the end of the channel and a support gusset for strength.
Good luck with your box and will see you at EAA.

music wire going vertically, then some 1/8" by 3/4" with tissue tubes to
slide onto the music wire (with some small cutout for the wing, maybe
1/8"). Two of these side by side, load a wing, add spacer, load wing, add
spacer, rinse, lather, repeat. At the top, another 1/2" piece slides down
onto the music wire with just enough clearance for the box.
