I agree 100% with Don S. on why more experienced (not expert) flyers fly in
"beginner events". My satisfaction does not come from having a better time
than someone not as experienced but from trying to squeeze every possible
turn out of that 18 inch loop of rubber and trying to beat and improve on my
own previous best time.I just enjoy flying. I'll fly in 10 different events
at USIC this year. From straight line speed to F1D because I think its fun.
If it takes a trophy to get more people interested
in our hobby then maybe we need to give them out for just entering an event.
I've probably built more than 100 indoor models of various classes before I
built an A-6 capable of doing over 10 minutes. Our hobby involves a learning
curve that doesn't happen over night. Our hobby also requires patience and
the desire to continue to improve. I don't believe ANOTHER "beginner event
is going to attract anyone new. We already have LPP,F1L,and MiniStick. I've
just finished building a new A-6. (Condenser Paper Covered, 50 % Stab,
Ballasted to 1.2 gm) No one mentioned the BOM rule. I have an A-6 that has
done over 10:00 at the Kibbe Dome and 10:21 at USIC and am interested in
trading it for a roll of Y2K2 . Anyone interested? Tom
