Tapio,

I should include some follow-up data. After my post, I received
numerous tips on winding from accomplished fliers. Using their
methods of winding, I was able to significantly increase both the
maximum number of turns, as well as the torque at a given number of
turns remaining. I am now able to wind 1/05 to ~4800 ft-lbs/lb and
6/06 to ~4400 ft-lbs/lb, and am sure that I can increase those a bit
more as I practice winding. Looks like winding technique makes all
the difference.
