I haven't had any problems with the edges cutting into the rubber. The
breaks in the rubber usually occur somewhere other than the o-ring. I
used to melt the edges of the o-rings, but on the advice of folks on
the old yahoo indoor list, I stopped doing that. It doesn't seem to
cut into the rubber at all, although I haven't done any specific
testing.
