I think you may be overestimating the effect of DLG on the sport of IHLG.
Where is the advantage of DLG over javelin launch in Cats 1-3? The models
have a max wing area of 100 sq inches which means huge, long-winged DLGs
aren't legal. As long as you can get a large glider to the ceiling it won't
matter how you get it there. What am I missing?
In Cat IV DLG may well be dominant as it is likely to be in outdoor HLG. But
I think javelin launch will be alive and well for many years in the lower
ceiling categories.

Agreed, which is why I am in support of DLG. Anything to get more
people throwing. I just hoped it would never emerge as a superior
method to the old way! I can admit I have some selfish foundation in
those feelings.
I am really beginning to think that by 2010 JLG will have gone the
way of the carved from a solid block indoor duration prop. The
exciting part will be the transition to it, which is happening now.
How many of the bigger contests will be won by DLG instead of a JLG
this year?
Certainly some (maybe me) will try to hold on to the old method, and
remain competitive for a period of time. But eventually the discus
method will be refined by more and more people to the point that the
JLG guys will either join them or be beaten by them.
