Nick, wish I'd heard about the above brush trick a few years ago.
Getting wet tissue happy and straight on mandrel used to be a headache
for me. I now just grab an entire edge of the wet tissue WITH the
mandrel itself. This happens (relatively) easily by letting water
soaked tissue blank OVERHANG the wet glass by about 3/16". (It easily
floats out to edge of glass if everything well wet.) I then scoop up
the tissue (rather, silkspan) in one deft swipe by bringing the mandrel
up from underneath the tissue overhang and the wet tissue will grab
mandrel strongly. Then (in the air) infinite straightening adjustments
are possible. Faster to accomplish than explain, for sure. But your
method sounds even easier.
