Re: New AMA/NAA policy on FAI national records.

Perhaps we should try to beat the AMA/NAA at their own game. We should remove the five FAI classes (F1D, F1L, F1M, F1R, and F1N) from the AMA rule book. Then we add five new classes called F1D-USA, etc. These classes would have the same physical rules with wording changes to allow USA related aspects (model marking with AMA # or FAI ID, etc).

In the past such a change was hard to make work as an FAI WR had to also be a USA National record by FAI rules (except when the National record was longer than the new WR). The current FAI WR rules appear not to have such a requirement.

Anyway, this way the NAA need not be involved except for an FAI WR. I realize that the NAA put some pressure on the AMA for this change and that the NAA motive was, in part, financial in nature (this later is not an assumption but from a direct discussion last March with an NAA representative who said that the the indoor fliers need be more financially supportive of the NAA). Second, we should let our district VP's know of our displeasure for those who voted for this.
