Something right around 5.5# density 1/32" thick is just about ideal.
There are times where, in order to get the balsa to lay correctly, I have had to make a slit in it.
Say 1.5" long, point at inner side, about 1/32" wide at edge. Form up that way, then glue afterwards with Duco or Ambroid. You can always hit that area with a bit of tissue overlap if needed.
