For the VP hub actuator arms, get them as close as you can, then use a dremel with a diamond cutting wheel to grind them closer.

What are people using to cut music wire? My old cutters are getting pretty dull, and leave flattened pancakeends instead of a clean cut. I've triedseveral replacements over the years, but most of them aren't hard enough and endup with well-shaped holes in the cutting edge. Searching the web, I see a Xuron hard wire shear, but I don'tthink it will get close enough to cut things like the actuator arms on a VP hub:
http://www.qsource.com/p-14548-xuron-2193-music-wire-shear-545.aspx?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwwbHWBRBWEiwAMIV7E27IkJRF2dmPbrESG4sVv51Lid-LKVS-9LfYoXwqrlKQi6I-FLyyCRoCLqIQAvD_BwE There are hard wire cutters on Amazon in the $20 range, butthey look like knock-offs of $200 dental tools, and have mixed reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/G-S-CUTTER-ORTHODONTIC-ORTHO-DENTAL/dp/B00VTG6ZNA/ref=sr_1_9?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1523383173&sr=1-9&keywords=hard+wire+cutter The most promising looking thing so far are these Exceltatungsten carbide cutters. They are a bitrich at $70, but if they work well. I'dhate to lay out that kind of cash and have them chip or dent, though:
