FAI unique ID numbers for USA FAI models

Just to get everyone up to speed on what has been happening behind the
scenes. I submitted an AMA rules proposal to change the wording in the
AMA Indoor rules for F1D, F1L, F1M, and F1R to adjust the wording from

*"Specifications, flying rules, and scoring rules are the same as for
FAI Indoor Models. (See FAI Sporting Code.)"*

to
*
**"Specifications, flying rules, and scoring rules are the same as for
FAI Indoor Model Aircraft (See FAI Sporting Code), except that at AMA
sanctioned contests (requiring AMA license only) the model may be marked
with the AMA membership number, prefixed with "USA" instead of the FAI
unique ID number of the competitor. For FAI sanctioned contests
(requiring FAI license) models must be marked with the FAI unique ID
number." *

That proposal was officially declined for acceptance by the AMA and
consequently the Indoor Contest Board cannot vote on it. In the mean
time Tony Stillman has advised the following:

"I was given approval by AMA’s Executive Director to put a temporary
hold on enforcing this particular FAI rule until the AMA Executive
Council can determine the best course of action. So, for now, please
pass along to the Indoor Free Flight community that they are not
required to put the FAI ID number on their models as the rule requires. 
I will keep this group aware of these discussions."

*Now I need to be very clear here. If you are at FAI sanctioned event,
i.e. the World champs you MUST have the unique ID number on the model
per FAI rules. The waiving of the ID mark is only for those flying in
AMA sanction contests only. So for example those coming to Kent State in
April looking to set USA national records, no ID mark required. If your
trying to set an FAI World Record at Kent then you must have an FAI
license and have the FAI unique ID on the model.

Chuck Etherington is doing a great job behind the scenes working on our
behalf to allow the alternate marking. I will update this group when a
resolution has been reached. So those US modelers who were worried they
were going to be forced to buy a FAI license just for the purpose of
being issued a unique ID number to write on their model so they can fly
at an AMA contest  need not to worry for the time being.
