I think this is getting a bit stretched out.
FAI licenses are required for World Cup events or WCs....only....we have many FAI outdoor events and they do not require a FAI license. Even if you set a national record, there is no need for the license.
So, if you fly World Cup or for a team position, you need an FAI license. If you fly an F class model at the Nats or local contests, you do not..and, your AMA number is (will be) your FAI number (with USA added to it typically in front. I.e. USA 1234)...
We have flown in multiple world champs and that is what we needed.
