Two new records set at Rantoul

Kurt broke the unlimited Catapult launch glider record and Nick Ray broke the F1R record.

Kurt's record was impressive given the conditions - the wind outside was howling all day on Saturday.
The wind was 25mph sustained with gusts reported up to 48 mph.
Despite this, the hangar was quite flyable all day. Not the best conditions, but flyable.
At about 5pm a front came through, it rained and the temperature dropped about 20 degrees.
As the floor was now almost 5 degrees warmer than the air above it, we had thermal behavior down low.
Mostly it was just turbulence - F1Ds would hit it and stall at about 6 feet.
Kurt was able to take advantage of this on a few flights and got a very nice ground effect on his record flights.
Other times he'd hit the same turbulence and stall and lose two seconds.

Nick set the record on Sunday, with much nicer conditions.

Looking forward now to next year.

Regards.
