As you know at Rantoul we have been flying light stuff with gliders and other heavy models, basically anything can fly when ever anyone chooses. So far (knock on wood) we have had no issues. Now Rantoul has a much larger floor space than Kent (but Kent is also pretty large) and I think people are using common sense and trying hard to stay out of other peoples way. The heavy stuff doesn't have as long flight time as the light stuff, so I think people that are flying heavy models are the ones who need to "yield" the floor to the light stuff. Also,( unfortunately)the number of flyers at the Rantoul events been small and the floor is typically not very busy. Running an event this way, does put lighter model's are greater risk, its just a question if the risk to the light stuff is small enough. This is kind of the "model" that been used at the EAA Flightfest too but if I recall there are some specify time slots where only light stuff can fly.
Now the typical local contest flight schedules seemed to set time slots for Light models, Heavy models and Gliders. I really never understood why catapult gliders couldn't at least fly with the heavy models. At least for my standard catapult cat 2 models(which are around 2 to 3 grams) , they typically weigh less than most tissue covered model. My unlimited Cat 2 model are around 7 to 9 grams (which are also around what typical tissue models weighs , ie scale models, delta darts, etc.) and my hand launch Cat 2 models are around 12-20 grams. So in my view if any specific glider time slot is needed it should be for hand launch gliders.
Just some thoughts on ways to squeeze in more glider time.

DonI don't know how likely it is for Ishii to actually show up but even without him there promises to be some high pressure glider competition. Kurt is close to record times at Rantoul so I imagine he's going to be pushing hard on both catapult records. We might even lure Stan into coming.
Do you think there's any way to squeeze in more glider time? I would hesitate to try to attract far off fliers if the time is as limited as it has been in the past.
