Thanks for all the responses.

I'm still not sure what will work best. Gap filling foam would be my first choice, but we were told we cannot use it.

At the top of the doors, there is a vertical gap approximately 1" wide and at least two inches tall.
In another area, it is wider, about 1.5" wide. The material on both sides is metal and is old and rusty.
Hammering in a bit of tapered wood was my first thought, but given the fact that this is 40' up in the air, it is a non-starter. If it falls, someone could be seriously injured.

One thing about foam like this is the fact that it will get waterlogged and heavy. I am guessing that over time it will compress and not stay put.

Another option would be 1.25" backer rod. If we put a bead of caulk on one side only, the caulk should anchor it in place. Suppose we could always try some Liquid Nails here too.

One thing we did notice on Friday as the bad storms rolled through is that the hangar doors move. There was a lot of rattling. That gap may change due to the movement. And we have 200' of gap to deal with.

Regards.
