I'm a retired chemist and your question intrigued me. California is indeed a special case. I looked up Klean Strip odorless mineral spirits, the brand of paint thinner at Home Depot., They do make a special type for California (Except for LA and vicinity) Here is the url to the producer, Wm. The answer on Coleman Camp Fuel is a good one, at least chemically. I once had a project making high octane gas out of similar stuff. Naphtha is just a name for a low octane refinery cut a little more volatile than kerosene.. Components vary, depending on the source.
