"The point of the two minute max is simple. It prevents guys like you and me from doing three and four minutes and making the event completely inaccessible to the beginner. Do you see many raw beginners flying EZB or A-6? Both examples of Beginner events that have been thoroughly and inexorably ruined for the beginner."

I do get to call bull on this one. A-6 has remained one of the most popular indoor events ever, second only to LPP, and perhaps eclipsing it sometimes. The last Nats I attended, 2012 in JC, there were lots of folks flying them. Practically every beginner I've ever seen who has shown an interest in lightweight flying has built an A-6. The performance guys like Bill put up has never discouraged a single one that I've seen. EZB has managed to pull this off historically--I've seen many beginners try them, and I'm currently corresponding with several folks who've tried it as well. The decline of EZB is probably more due to us discouraging beginners from trying and directing them to other events than any other single factor, hence the reason that F1L remains hugely popular. So no, A-6 does not support your arguement. It's actually a very successful event.
