 Not really. It's a model strong enough to be flown outdoors. Hardly a crossover.

 I fail to see how NoCal, Bostonian, or Embryo, let alone scale, are easier that LPP. I fly all of those classes to the limits of their capabilities, and LPP is a walk in the park compared to any of them, expecially NoCal, where the floppiness of the models can make them genuinely hard to get into the air to the most basic standards of flight. If the perception is that LPP is harder than these events, then our energies are far better spent dispelling that myth because adding P-18 will do absolutely nothing to fix that misperceived roadblock.

 Looks to me like the momentum to adopt SO rules in place of P-18 is strong. I still see it as a far better concept if the target is school age beginners. If the target is existing model fliers, then Phantom Flash would be a far better option since many already have such models and they're smaller and easier to fly and already have a huge following. Their flight times lie within the target range of 60-120 seconds and they require minimal time to build and minimal flying site quality. Besides, there are extremely high quality kits available from at least two manufacturers. Best of all, no AMA ratification is even necessary since it's an official FAC event, and those who buy the affordable FAC membership become eligible to collect Kanones for winning!
