I have competed regularly in mass launches with an AMA Cub, and have not had a super amount of success with it. The Cub is probably more robust than it needs to be, especially when built with kit wood. Thus it is heavy, at nearly 12 grams. It is very sensitive to CG and pitch, especially when changing rubber from indoor to outdoor. Eyeballing the small amount of clay it needs to balance is tough. I've gotten 25 seconds out of it but not much more. There are old hands that do better, but the secrets have not been easy to find. Rubber length is touchy.

I don't have a comparative weight for the Denny Dart Mike is referring to. I imagine that kitting it from a more reasonable, less dense wood would make it lighter than the AMA Cub.

Getting a good flyer into the hands of kids is important. Back in the 50's, I got hooked with a Testor's variant on the Sleek Streak.
