I will second Kang on the great experiences available with Science Olympiad. I have been coaching only four years (seven years for a different Peck ROG based event) and thoroughly enjoy it. I have 14 students from four high schools this year and all are having a blast. The kids (and the parents) usually can't even believe that they can build something so beautiful and functional with their own hands.

We also use the Freedom Flight SO kit with several modifications as a way to save construction time.

I originally intended to coach one of the local high school teams and did this for the first year. When I saw two other local high school teams finish dead last in elastic launch glider that year I couldn't stand it (one had the wing of their Freedom Flight glider on backwards; flaps forward!) and had to offer to help them too. I picked up one more school when my local high school started a team last year.

I'll be supervising Elastic Launch Glider for an invitational event this weekend and expect to see about 50 middle-schoolers flying gliders. Should be a lot of fun.

Kang, Leo will be hard to beat this year. Did you see his report of a 3:39 flight w/ only 22 ft of climb height? My demo airplane best is 3:15 in a 24 ft ceiling site. I might have to build Leo's design just to try my luck with it.
