Mike,

How many schools in the Chicago area (not just the Chicago school district) participate in Science Olympiad? Yes, it may not be easy. However, the Wright Stuff coach is sorely needed in almost all schools.

I volunteered to help a school this year that has had poor showings in Wright Stuff in recent years. I personally know the chemistry teacher who organizes Science Olympiad. Guess what? He never called me back! I'll try again next year, and next time I'll be even more persistent.

Still, in the last 6 years, I've coached at 5 different schools. Some will take your offer and some won't.

I think starting a Science Olympiad team is a great idea, but it takes a huge amount of time. Each team has 15 students and more than 20 events. Wright Stuff is only one event. It takes a tremendous amount of organization, energy, and enthusiasm from teachers, parents, and students.
