Would it be more contemporary to make a winder that could be 3D-printed?
One with metal gears and ball bearings, but a positive lock and compact
size. With self-printable body you would not need to make a batch of
them, but could use a print-on-demand service and have parts
manufactured as people need them - either sell them finished parts or
the "instructions" to print the parts themselves.
