Thanks John,

Ross Jahnke made the following suggestion in a different discussion:
“I think the world wide FAI free flight community is small enough at this point, that with some verification of participation, public comment on rule change proposals is possible. Maybe my earlier suggestion of a social media platform is too loose and informal, but a survey organized by CIAM/Ian Kaynes or jointly carried out by national organizations is possible. The contact information for FAI sportsmen who participated in team selection events should be available from most countries free flight organizations, at least enough to run a good representative poll. After all there are contest records to review, and FAI stamps issued.”
I agree that the current system has some serious shortcomings. The current representational voting structure may have been necessary when there were thousands of flyers and no internet, but it is archaic and doesn’t appear to work well. I will pursue this with Ian and keep the indoor community apprised.

Hi Chuck,

The problem is larger than just the US CIAM representative(s) and US Indoor community (keep in mind that there are Indoor participants from many countries on this list). The issue is with taking into account input from the world-wide Indoor community.

The effort that you put into the previous rule change is one of the few things that worked properly.

The disparity between the resulting vote and the opinions of the majority of people I spoke with at the World Championships demonstrates the representation gap. I suspect that the issues you list are factors for other countries as well.

We need to collectively demand better representation and process improvements, or we will surely be saddled with more decisions that do not necessarily reflect the general opinion.
