I've got an update that supports your view that Ikara's are a good start. I put that 225 mm Ikara prop on the front of one of my Double Whammy's with a 10 inch loop of 1/8 rubber and got it to fly in the gym for 69 seconds on a bit over 800 turns. The Double Whammy was heavy and draggy so about 50 seconds was left in the motor on landing. When I put the larger bladed bucket prop on the same Whammy with the same motor, there was less thrust and little climb, since rpm was too low.

I've got two choices with the bucket prop. I could go with 4 strands of 3/32 to get more torque, but with the rubber weight limit I'd only be able to get 400-500 turns. On the other side, I could reduce the size of the bucket prop blades to increase rpm, with or without decreasing diameter, so I can use 1/8 rubber. I'd get a shorter motor run, nearer to the Ikara. Smaller blades would make the bucket prop a bit lighter, too.

So it looks like I have some snipping to do.
