 Hi,

I have flown at the Iowa site many times, probably at least half dozen times and only once did my gliders(5 to 20 gram models)  fly in  decent air.   Air blowers were always on  and I was told managment was not willing/able to shut them off.

Cheers,
Kurt

Hi Dennis.

Jeff Annis and I flew there a while back.

The problem is the air is really turbulent. The dome lets in a lot of light so there is a lot of mixing in the air.
My F1D did a Split S maneuver at one point. Stalls, prop stops, moves backwards, etc.

I recall Jeff had a ministick flight that hit a thermal at about 45' up (about 80% into the flight) and climbed to well over 100'.
It came down finally dead stick from something like 80' up.

Kurt Krempetz also indicated he flew there once or twice and he also thought the air was terrible.

I wish it were better. The site would be incredible to fly in IF the air was smoother.

Regards.
