I went to see the European price for Nikon, found an older model and
then a review comparing the old and new ("Pro") one. Found an alarming
feature (which seems to be not in the old version, so I wonder if it can
be turned off...) The Pro does a 3-point measurement for tree length:
horizontal distance to the tree, then top and stump (as is the
traditional forestry fashion). However (the review says) it only uses
laser for the first, and simply the angle of view for the latter two.
This way, it cannot be used to measure the altitude. Unless you find
also one-point measuring mode?
