I would not reduce the stub's cross section to start. This would be part of the former motor stick -- it was very stiff due to both the wood size used and it was under tension of the bracing line and the motor. I would be cautious to make this part from lighter wood.f

 I plan to move the tailhook and bracing post forward, then rebrace. Since there is 0.2 g extra weight available, I would not try to save weight here.
