Mark, That is a key question. I believe that the proposal was initiated with good intentions (my wife accuses me of being an optimist), but without legitimate debate within the F1D community. My main objection is that the approval process does not involve appropriate input from, and representation for, the group that the proposal affects. That needs to change, and this is a good time to change it.

 An opposing argument is that it is very hard to gain consensus, and resulting change, via open forums or democratic process. I usually favor benevolent dictatorship to endless committees. This situation feels different, though. Too much important change for too little reason by people who don't have enough information.
