I met Charlie back in 1961 when I lived in Naperville and there was still flying at the Madison Street Armory in Chicago. He was a big help getting me back into indoor flying and on a higher level than my somewhat crude earlier attempts back in the late 1940’s. Those flyng sessions and contests were both instructive and fun. He was both a friend and mentor. He and I were the same age. His brother Pete was still around back then and was a really fine indoor CD. Charlie was a complete rubber flier. I remember seeing his Korda, its single black prop flailing away, climbing out nicely at one of the Glenview Nationals. The last time I saw him was at one of the “Indoor Week” gathering at West Baden where he was helping officiate as score keeper. I regret that we lost contact after that and am really sorry to hear that he’s gone. We won’t forget you, Charlie.
