Silicon comes in a 'pure' (food safe) grade for things like SCUBA gear
and in an more generally used mechanics form that contains petroleum.

Most dive shops have both pure silicon spray and pure silicon grease for
use on SCUBA regulators. Believe me, divers don't want lipoid pneumonia
from oils!
