I have never experienced nor have I heard it said that indoor flyers are unfriendly. Quite the contrary! When I started flying indoor free flight they seemed very friendly & willing to assist me and share tips, suggestions, procedures & even supplies.

Sadly, the perception of parts of indoor being unfriendly is not an excuse,

But who is it that says indoor is unfriendly? Where is the proof that this is the "word on the street." Beside your recent posts I can think of only one other person in 30 years of indoor flying who has put forth a similar argument. Are the people who tell you this are they all speaking from personal experience or simply repeating the experience as herd by others?

and here's why: would you be interested in taking up a new and challenging type of model competition reputed to be very difficult if everyone told you that the participants were unfriendly and unhelpful?

Once again who is "everyone"? Who is telling you this? None of the people in our free flight club (CFFS) which is mainly an outdoor FAC club thinks like this at all.

That's a powerful motivator to not take it up, and that's what I was told.

Again by whom? Sounds to me like you need to hang with better friends :-)

I finally took up F1D because several of my friends kept bugging me to try it. And that's how you get new participation.

Looks like you found better friends :-) So now that you have built and flow F1D do you now find that what you were told about indoor F1D flyers being unfriendly arrogant jerks to be true or false? If false, then all the people who told you they were all arrogant jerks needs to be made aware that you found it to be just the opposite. They have to alter their perception as they are the ones actually creating the stereotype not the F1D modeler.
