I would feel amazed. The reason is that a typical propeller can be
optimized to one pitch only. VP's have the drawback that when the pitch
changes from the design value, the efficiency of prop comes considerably
down. Flying an F1D for 50min plus on SS rubber would indicate that you
have been able to build a prop that has high efficiency on a large range of
pitch values. No-one has so far been able to do that.
So go ahead, amaze me!

Ps. What Jake said was not that high energy release is bad, but that high
variation in the torque vs. turns is a bad thing. Or, difficult to utilize.
